Yesterday night was Sheng and Regina's Pool & BBQ Party. It took some planning, some calling, some emailing, some facebooking, some smsing, some shopping, some ordering, some marinating, some cooking, some roasting, some washing.
And it turned out good, or so I hope. Many people congratulated me over a job well done, but truth is, I couldn't have done it alone.
Thank you Lich for suggesting a BBQ.
Thank you Kar How for lying (although you can't), being a great sidekick and washing up.
Thank you Marcus & She Yin for being my liaison on Regina's side.
Thank you Shawn for being my liaison for Sheng's church friends.
Thank you Diong for your room, your help preparing food, being the official video person and half your lung.
Thank you Shuey for being the official photographer and the other video person.
Thank you Willy for your car for transportation of cake, food and people.
Thank you Wai Yee for your car for transportation of balloons.
Thank you Jonathan for your car for transportation of people and Regina herself.
Thank you Sheng for acting surprised, even though you already knew.
Thank you random people who offered us (ahem) live entertainment for the night.
Thank you all those who helped out to cook at the BBQ.
Thank you all those who helped out to throw people into the pool.
Thank you all those who helped clean up after.
But most of all,
thank you all those who came to make it a great night (and kept the secret to execute the surprise).
It was great fun (and procrastination excuse) to plan the party and it was my great honour to do so.
It was a great party not due to the organising, but due to the great crowd that turned up.
And if you were looking for a rough summary of what happened, there is one here for Diong's version or you could read the following:
- Morning - cooking.
- Afternoon - go Dickson to pick up cakes.
- Done cooking. At around 6, official transporters reach Academie to transport food and balloons.
- Food and balloons transported, decorated the area whilst I spontaneously thought up of a (very) lame reason to get Sheng to come home.
- Sheng came home at a good time, but spotted Chloe and Jared.
- Jared gave a lame excuse of tennis, but was seen through very easily.
- Sheng went to check mail with Arjun and Jared whilst the rest of us hid by the BBQ area.
- For some funny and unexplained reason, Sheng proceeded upstairs instead of the party area (still don't get it, Arjun, please explain).
- From upstairs, he saw the whole load of people downstairs, then not as surprised liao.
- Everyone crowded around the lift area as Sheng descended from his high throne up above, whilst I hoped he reached before Regina does.
- He did, and we "Surprise" when the door opened (I think we did), then turned around as Regina walks in the door and "Surprise" her too.
- Headed to BBQ area to heat up food and eat.
- Eat eat eat then mingle mingle.
- Plan to throw Sheng and Regina in pool as Sheng (I think) noticed a group of people playing some sort of game where one guy was stripped to his boxers, guessed it was a game of strip poker.
- Marcus (I think) then noticed there was another view of a guy showering as we could see the silhouette.
- He then shouted a bit too loudly, and then the entire party crowd started to stare at shower-guy.
- All too sudden, shower-guy was joined by shower-lady. O.o
- As everyone was preoccupied with their dirty side, I turned my attention back to group of supposedly-strip-poker people. Then noticed they took out a fold-up bed and then started to sandwich someone inside!
- Then at that time, Shuey was ready to execute plan throw-birthday-people-into-pool.
- People started surrounding Sheng, standing around him as he continue to sit on the steps.
- I hinted "Eh how come everyone is standing around you wan?", he didn't get it. Shuey was wondering why I said it.
- Then as I moved a bit away, and Shuey had the camera rolling, I mouthed a "GO!" to the throw-into-poolers, and like a bunch of kidnappers, 6 of them grabbed him by the limbs and body, checked pockets, carried him to the pool, and gadeeesh!
- The throw-into-poolers then proceeded to go for Regina, where she started running around the entire place (and when I say entire, I do mean ENTIRE) escaping human contact.
- Will and I started to fill out water balloons and Will his water gun. Jeng jeng, shoot shoot water. My water balloons failed big time and bounced off her (if they even came into contact with her) like silicon pads. The water gun had a much better aim.
- Regina then used Marcus as a human shield, and as I pried her away from him, she parasited on me instead. Wow, is she a strong chick or what. She nearly dragged me all the way down. If I hadn't held onto the wall, I think I would've crushed her bones at the force she was pulling me.
- Wah she came out after letting me go and executed revenge with apple juice! Got a few people sticky, Shuey's eyes stinging, and Shuey's camera half dead.
- And then, after several attempts of throwing Regina into the pool (and failing), the guys gave up and prowled for other victims instead.
- Hazel kena, Kar How kena, Arjun nearly kena until he gave in and jumped in himself.
- I nearly kena-ed. Got dragged with an entire table. Good thing I am not ticklish, I tell you.
- After that, a truce was made, and some others willingly jumped into the pool (oh yes, Ah Boy did drag a few with him as he was thrown).
- Lich was the last to be dragged in (by Hazel) and scraped her knee. See lah, so tall got disadvantages kan?
- As the night was getting late, the cake needed to be cut, so everyone cleaned up, washed up and proceeded upstairs for song singing and cake cutting.
- I honestly didn't plan for another kissing session (as Regina made me do on my birthday) but by popular demand, I made her do it too.
- She ended up half-raping poor She Yin.
- Cake eating and karaoke sessions continued as people started to head home.
- Some who stayed later played some cards, and then headed home too.
