You know...

you’re Australianised (or Canberranised) when:

  • you leave your lights on when you sleep

  • you leave your laptop on 24 hours a day

  • you don’t lock your room/house door

  • you don’t lock your bathroom door

  • you feel weird when the flies that fly near you move away when swatted

  • you feel sticky and sweaty nearly most of the day because of the HOT weather

  • you cross a zebra crossing not looking at cars (only to get horribly honked and shouted at)

  • you say hello to every person you meet on the street (only to get weird stares)

  • you say “thank you” to the bus driver (and he looks at you as if you were from another planet)

  • you are no longer used to mosquito bites even though you’ve been a target since young

  • walking along the roads are a hard chore because of the heat

  • you are not used to seeing huge shopping malls STUFFED with people

  • you are not used to shops being opened after 5pm

  • you try to drink tap water and harshly realise that you shouldn’t right before the water goes into your mouth

  • you see sooo many shopping malls and hospitals within a short driving distance from each other

  • you are not used to traffic jams, turning a 3-lane road into 5 lanes

  • the polluted air gets to you and you sneeze ever so often

  • you find it hard to travel anywhere without a car

Feel free to add on more. These are just a few that I came up with whilst babysitting for cousins who are here to bug me and destroy my entire week’s plans.

... you put on the seat belt and realise no one else in the back seat is doing it.

... you eat real nasi lemak and roti canai and realise how much of a rip off it is to pay rm21 for it!!
