Huh?

It was a very ultimately busy day at work today. With a sudden crowd at a time when there is not the availability of staff to entertain, poor Corina and I were overworked. Waay overworked.

And to add salt to wound, I spilt half a bottle of my milk in the fridge so I had to clean it out and Corina had to make extra donuts as the available stock was depleting way too quickly. So we had to juggle our cleaning and making in the midst of entertaining a huge stream of customers.

And by the end of that hour, when Khoo Sui came to our rescue by coming in for work, the both of us were mentally and physically exhausted. I lost the ability to count and Corina lost the ability to (I don't know). We were tired. Period.

And then I served this guy, he bought I-don't-know-what which came up to a total of $5.40 so I said "5.40 please". He took some time, fiddled with his wallet and pulled out a five-dollar note and handed it to me.

So I continued standing there, waiting for the forty cents to come. He then looked at me. And I repeated myself - "5.40 please".

And then he said, "I don't have the 40."

And I was like, "Huh??"

And then he repeated "I don't have the 40."

And I "Huh??" again.

Then it dawned on him. That I was not waiting for him to give me the 40 cents so that it could simplify his change (like how people give $5.30 for something that costs $4.30 so that they get $1 change instead of $0.70 change). That I was indeed waiting for him to pay his full amount.

And then he shied away in shame.

But I was too tired to think too much into it till much later when it dawned on me why he kept saying "I don't have the 40".

Guess we all have our blonde moments.
