I sometimes wonder how come ang mohs find it so hard to pronounce Chinese names. But well, maybe a weakness of the Caucasians I guess.
But it's just hilarious how they can mess up names, no matter how simple they are.
For one, my name usually ends up being pronounced "zeen yee". Technically it's wrong cause it's supposed to be "seen yee", but friends in the closer circle call me "zeen", just cause "seen" sounds weird.
Ohkay, so maybe my name is hard. But Chi Yao would be pronounced "chee yaaoo" but Mr Miller seems to have taken a liking to calling him "ciao". Lately, it seems his preferences have changed. Now his "ciao" has evolved into a "John". Try saying it fast a few times, you might just get "ciao" to sound like "John".
That's one type. Then there's the ones who are so lazy to pronounce acronyms as they are. Dah lah they're acronyms, you want to make them even shorter. Lazy bunch of people we are. There's a few creations of ours, the LBE (Laws of Business Entities) that becomes "lerbee" then there's MSO (Malaysian Students' Organisation) which is referred to at times as "miso". But calling CGT "shitty" just doesn't sound right anymore. CGT stands for Capital Gains Tax (if you were wondering).
Maybe someone should tell my Tax Law lecturer that. It just sounds weird when he goes on and on about "shitty tax" and "shitty events". Makes you wonder what "shitty" day he's been through.
